Seagate will start selling 20 TB hard drives to regular users

The advantages of SSDs over traditional hard drives are obvious, but that doesn’t mean there is no more space for the HDD. If we talk primarily about storing large amounts of data at an adequate price, then HDD is the best choice. And soon this year, ordinary users, including gamers, will be able to purchase Seagate hard drives up to 20TB. Previously, they were only available as business solutions.

No consumer pricing has been announced for the new models, but MSRP for the 10TB Barracuda Pro drive is around $ 350. So the 20TB models will cost at least $ 700. Decent, but more than acceptable for such a volume.

How many games will fit in 20 TB? Depends on the type. Modern games already reach at least 100 GB, and some are confidently approaching 200 GB, but these are isolated cases. If we take an average game, then about 400-600 titles will fit. If we talk about indie, then you can fit thousands of titles.

However, such a decision can hardly be considered long-term. The future is definitely solid-state drives and over time SSDs will become cheaper and their capacity will continue to grow.
