A new addition to the Blade Runner universe has received its first trailer. Adult Swim and Crunchyroll unveiled Blade Runner: The Black Lotus during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2021.
“Black Lotus” is being developed in Los Angeles, as is most work on the universe. The year is 2032 – between the original film and the sequel. The series is dedicated to Ellie – a replicant created for special purposes and endowed with special powers. She is known as the Black Lotus and finds a way to escape her creators. In the trailer, we see her running away from pursuit, likely from at least one Runner.
“Black Lotus” will include 13 episodes. Directed by Shinji Aramaki (“Appleseed”) and Kenji Kamiyama (“Ghost in the Shell: Loner Syndrome”). Animation is handled by Sola Digital Arts and Alcon Entertainment. The creative producer will be Shinichiro Watanabe, known for such masterpieces as: “Cowboy Bebop”, “Samurai Champloo” and “Carol and Tuesday”
Premiere this fall.
