Harding Rolls believes that more AAA titles will launch on Xbox Game Pass at release, and the reason is very simple – this approach helps to avoid risks. But not everyone.
For some titles, appearing on Xbox Game Pass on the first day of sales is a strategy to increase their chances of avoiding risks. Companies immediately receive a certain amount as a prepayment and an audience of 18 million users, which can later spend money on in-game purchases.
In addition, some time later, the game can be removed from the catalog in order to increase the usual sales, if necessary.
The above strategy is suitable for games that clearly do not show high sales figures. Either this is a new IP, that is, it does not have an established fan base.
Harding Rolls also commented on Microsoft’s spending that is driving the growth of the Xbox Game Pass catalog. He thinks it’s worth it as the company is aiming for the long-term development of its subscription audience.
