John McAfee accused of money laundering and cryptocurrency price inflation

John McAfee, founder of one of the largest antivirus and cybersecurity companies, is accused of securities fraud and money laundering.

In addition to McAfee, his former bodyguard and “advisor” Jimmy Gail Watson Jr. is involved in the case. They are reported to have been involved in “bluff and drain” schemes when they deliberately inflated the market value of cryptocurrencies, motivating followers on Twitter and other social networks to invest in them.

The couple pushed subscribers to invest in coins, while not reporting that they own a package of investments in these cryptocurrencies, with the aim of selling in the short term. After subscribers started buying cryptocurrency, the couple sold their package at skyrocketing prices. It is alleged that such a scheme was carried out from December 2017 to October 2018.

According to the prosecution, McAfee, Watson and a number of others in the McAfee “team” earned about $ 13 million by carrying out such manipulations.

It is worth noting that John is now in prison in Spain on another tax evasion charge.

In total, seven charges have been brought against McAfee and Watson. Against this background, I recall John’s tweet from 2017, when he joked that he would eat his own dick if one bitcoin was not worth $ 500 thousand in 2020.
