The authors of DSOGaming conducted a technical analysis of The Medium on PC. As it turned out, the game shows itself quite controversially, not only on consoles, but even on PC. Journalists noted that the strange system requirements, designed for 30 FPS, probably hid rather mediocre optimization.
The Medium on a PC with I9 9900K, 16 GB RAM, NVIDIA RTX 3080 and SSD is unable to keep the coveted 60 frames even at 1080p resolution, at high settings and without ray tracing.
In the analysis, we also noted that the game often freezes, DLSS technology has practically no effect, and enabling tracing takes only 7-8 frames (usually the performance drops by about 30 frames).
The authors stated that the point is clearly not in rendering two worlds: for example, in one such scene with ray tracing enabled, DLSS “Quality” mode, at 1440p resolution and with high settings, The Medium showed more than 80 FPS.
DSOGaming journalists noted that they do not understand what is happening, and the game itself does not at all justify such system requirements. The horror picture is standard.
