NVIDIA Shows Minecraft Ray Tracing Using Minas Tirith as an Example

NVIDIA released a video showing the ray tracing technology in Minecraft. For example, the capital of Gondor, Minas Terith, from the “Lord of the Rings” universe was chosen.

Minas Tirith is located on the Minecraft Middle-Earth server. The map has been created by players since 2010 – during this time they managed to build 870 square kilometers. In addition to the capital of Gondor, it contains Osgiliath, Isengard and Rohan.

In the video, you can see the effects of global illumination, improved shadows on city streets and the light that torches emit at night. At 0:17 it is shown how much the picture changes in the game Mojang.

Ray tracing was added to Minecraft last December. To work, you need Windows 10 and a special world where the technology is implemented.
