In Italy, TikTok received a partial block for some users. Temporarily the application cannot be used by those whose age cannot be documented. Ban is linked to an accident that happened in Palermo.
A 10-year-old girl died after completing the blackout challenge. During it, you had to put a belt around your neck and hold your breath in the video. She was found in the bathroom by her five-year-old sister with a phone next to her. The hospital could not save her.
Authorities say it is very easy to sign up on the app if you just specify a different age, so some users are temporarily unable to use TikTok until February 15. The app is also accused of violating an Italian law that requires parents to approve a child’s registration on a social network if he is under 14.
TikTok maintains that user safety is top priority. If so, then it is strange that a 10-year-old girl saw such a challenge on a social network.
