Yesterday it became known that Microsoft intends to double the cost of the annual subscription to Xbox Live Gold, but the reaction on the network was so unfriendly that the company decided to reconsider the situation. Now Microsoft will not only not increase the subscription price, but will also add free access to multiplayer to some F2P games, for example in Apex Legends and Fortnite. This practice has been around for a long time at PSN and has now made its way to the Xbox.
Current price for Xbox Live Gold:
- $ 9.99 for 1 month
- $ 24.99 for 3 months
- $ 39.99 for 6 months
- $ 59.99 for 12 months
Given how quickly the company pulled back on the price hike, some conspiracy buffs have already begun to argue that it was all deliberately done to gain attention.
In the meantime, Microsoft continues to grow its Game Pass subscription, intending to be the Netflix counterpart for gaming. It’s not clear how this business model will work, but the company already has Napoleonic plans to add a slew of AAA titles to Game Pass at the same time as the in-store release. To do this, the company has already spent over $ 10 billion buying up studios.
