According to Variety, HBO has launched a series of George Martin’s fantasy stories, The Tale of Dunk and Egg. The story is set in the same world as A Song of Ice and Fire, but almost a hundred years before the events of the main series.
At the moment, the project has neither a director nor a screenwriter, but for HBO it is a very high priority series. The service plans to build on the success of Game of Thrones further.
The protagonists of “The Tale of Dunk and Egg” are the knight Duncan the High (Dunk) and his squire Prince Aegon Targirien (Egg). To date, George Martin has released three novellas in the series: The Boundary Knight (1998), The Sworn Knight (2003) and The Mysterious Knight (2010). The writer plans to release a few more stories that will end with Aegon’s coronation.
HBO and George Martin have not yet commented on this information.
