According to Bloomberg, in 2022 Apple plans to launch a virtual reality helmet and augmented reality glasses on the market. The VR device should come out earlier and somehow prepare users for a more affordable and massive AR helmet.
The publication reported that the production of a virtual reality helmet ran into some problems, while Apple itself is rather restrained in predicting sales.
According to Bloomberg, the VR-device will be equipped with almost the same set of functions as competitors, but with the introduction of augmented reality options – projecting images and other things onto real objects. In addition, the device will receive more advanced and powerful chips and displays with higher resolutions – with this Apple plans to bypass competitors. The company will even introduce a cooler into the VR headset.
The author of Bloomberg also revealed some details of the price of the VR helmet. It is expected that the device will cost significantly more than its counterparts from competitors who ask for their products from $ 300 to $ 900. In addition, the publication believes that Apple will not be able to sell more than one device per day in one retail store. The optimistic forecast, taking into account all stores, is 180 thousand helmets per year.
As for the problems in production, they are associated with some points. Powerful processors and cooler that raised concerns during testing – Apple engineers are afraid that the device will put pressure on the user’s neck. The company also decided not to use the free space available to those who wear glasses. This reduced the distance between the face and the screen.
The VR headset is already in the final stages of prototyping. AR glasses, meanwhile, are at an early stage of development, so their announcement will take place no earlier than 2023.
