Virgin Orbit has successfully launched satellites into orbit for the first time using an air launch system. The LauncherOne launch vehicle was launched not from the ground, but from the Cosmic Girl aircraft (modified by the Boeing 747).
We are proud to say that LauncherOne has completed its first space mission, bringing satellites into space for our NASA friends.
During the launch, nine CubeSat satellites were launched into orbit. The advantage of an air launch system is that such launches will be much cheaper than traditional methods. The costs were calculated by Virgin Orbit engineers.
In May 2020, the company made its first launch attempt, but lost the rocket as the engines failed to fire. Elon Musk reacted to the situation, who said that before the successful launch of Falcon 1, his SpaceX company was waiting for three failed tests.
Looking forward, Virgin Orbit intends to carry out similar space launches on a regular basis for commercial purposes.
