New Path of Exile Add-on Sets Online Record and Crashes Servers

Last Friday, Grinding Gear Games released another expansion for Path of Exile called Echoes of the Atlas, which attracted a record number of players. Immediately after the release, the number of concurrent players exceeded 265 thousand (the previous record was 237 thousand).

The studio’s servers could not withstand such an influx of players, which is why a number of users experienced problems with entering the game, and in rare cases – errors with save.

Although 99% of the time players can still play normally, 1% of the problems are currently causing great inconvenience to users, and we apologize for that. Before that, we conducted tests with a huge number of bots, and this did not lead to such problems, so the situation that has arisen definitely requires careful consideration.

The developers plan to order additional hardware and possibly restart the servers for a short period of maintenance.

We know? what needs to be done, it just takes a while.

Echoes of the Atlas is now available on PC, and the expansion will reach consoles on January 20.
