Ubisoft announced yesterday that Massive is working on a Star Wars game. There are no title details yet, but French company CEO Yves Guillemot commented that this is just the beginning of the company’s partnership with Disney and Lucasfilm Games. It looks like players can expect more games in familiar universes.
On the Massive game, Ubisoft News interviewed the game’s creative director, Julian Gerity. Judging by it, the game is in the safe hands of a true fan of the classic “Star Wars”.
A New Hope was the first movie I saw in a movie theater, the first cassette tape wore out, its characters the first figurines he asked for. Characters, planets, ships and endless stories have become so familiar and beloved that I have no doubt that they have become a part of who I am.
There are no details of the game, but it will definitely be an open world story game. Gerity himself, thanks to the new game, leaves the The Division team.
For me personally, this will be the departure from the world of The Division. Me and the Massive team are very excited to start working on something new. We’re really looking forward to creating something completely different from what we’ve done in the past, while simultaneously raising the bar for the industry.
Gerity also told how this game will be unique:
First, we want to make it unique, with a compelling story and a cast of characters that players can interact with and interact with. We want to take what is familiar and resonating with us in Star Wars and tell the stories of new characters who have their own motives and interests. We have a passion for Star Wars and share a common vision with Lucasfilm Games about what kind of original story we want to convey to the fans, which makes this part of the game very exciting.
Second, and this is one of the reasons we were entrusted with this game, is to make the most of technology to bring innovation to the gameplay and world of the game. Our talented developers and our technical expertise, especially with our own Snowdrop game engine,
Making a Star Wars game will not affect the development of other games within the walls of Massive. We are talking about The Division and Avatar, about which there has been no news for a long time. All teams work on the same engine, so they only benefit from each other’s progress and success. However, the studio is already looking for new talent to work on the game. Based on the vacancies , there will be RPG elements as well.
The release date of the game remains unknown, but you shouldn’t wait until the end of 2022.
