Fan site TheOneRing has published the official synopsis of the upcoming Lord of the Rings show from Amazon. The resource confirmed the authenticity of the leak, but the information should be treated with restrained skepticism. There was no confirmation from the showrunners.
The upcoming Amazon Studios show will screen the legendary Second Age of Middle-earth for the first time. Set thousands of years before the events of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. a hair’s breadth, and the greatest villain ever to emerge from Tolkien’s pen threatened the world with darkness.
Starting in a time of relative peace, the series follows an ensemble of characters, both familiar and new, as they confront the long-awaited resurgence of evil in Middle-earth. From the darkest depths of the Misty Mountains, to the majestic forests of the elven capital of Lyndon, to the breathtaking island kingdom of Numenor, to the farthest reaches of the map of Middle-earth, these kingdoms and characters will forge a legacy that will last even after they die.
Judging by the first paragraph, the appearance of Sauron can be considered officially confirmed. At the same time, the official name of the show is still unknown, and the prospects for the appearance of the first teaser or trailer are not visible.
Two pilot episodes of the show have already been filmed and are in post-production, with season 1 and 2 starting filming in New Zealand this year. It is not known when they will end.
Perhaps the first season will have time to come out this year. In total, Amazon planned five seasons of 8-10 episodes.
