Sony’s Vision-S prototype electric car was one of the main surprises at CES 2020. This year, the company again talked about its car and even showed it in action on a private track and public roads in Austria.
At the same time, the video was filmed with an Airpeak drone, which was presented at the exhibition. It is designed for videographers and professional photographers and is capable of carrying Alpha cameras.
The drone will enter the market in spring 2021:
The third and longest video on the Vision-S focuses on how the car was designed, who is a Sony partner and what technologies it has built in. One of the partners is the car and component manufacturer Magna Steyr. According to the president of the company Frank Stein, the partnership between Magna and Sony will continue. Working together on Vision-S is just a starting point.
Over the course of the year, Sony has improved the electric car with an additional 40 sensors to give the driver a 360-degree panorama. In the final version, Vision-S will receive a voice assistant, gesture control, various entertainment, including video games. There is also a camera installed in the cabin that monitors the driver’s condition.
If the system detects that the passenger in the back seat is sleeping, it will automatically adjust the climate in that zone. The system will evolve over time, and the functions include monitoring the temperature of the driver, memorizing driving routes and preferred music.
Sony’s partners also include NVIDIA, Blackberry / QNX and Qualcomm. Unfortunately, Sony was silent about the Vision-S’s performance, range and price.
