By the end of 2021, Rockstar Games plans to release Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online on new consoles. Games should receive improved graphics – perhaps for this they will be transferred to a new engine.
GTAForums members noticed that the mention of the autonomous GTA Online has already appeared in the distribution of the game. The individual option names indicate that the standalone version of the game uses the Red Dead Redemption 2 engine.
This game is powered by the latest version of the RAGE engine, Rockstar Games’ proprietary technology. Perhaps the developers decided not to modify the technical part of Grand Theft Auto 5, but simply moved the game to the next version of the engine.
There is a nuance: so far only the parameters responsible for the user interface have been found. There is a possibility that only the interface code will be transferred from the latest version of the RAGE engine to Grand Theft Auto 5.
Another interesting point: judging by the name of the parameters, at some point players will be able to transfer characters from the current version of GTA Online to the updated one.
The release of Grand Theft Auto 5 and GTA Online on new consoles is tentatively scheduled for the second half of 2021. The release of improved versions on the PC has not yet been reported.
