Jonas Newbauer, seven-time world champion in classic tetris, dies

This was reported on Newbauer’s official Twitter, the cause of death was not specified.

Newbauer was born in Los Angeles in 1981. He first met Tetris at the age of 6-7 on his uncle’s Macintosh, and a few years later started playing the NES version of the game. Newbauer has participated in the Classic Tetris World Championship since its inception in 2010.

Newbauer won four straight wins from 2010 to 2013, as well as three more victories from 2015 to 2017. In the rest of the tournaments, he took second place.

In addition to his professional career, Newbauer has also hosted a YouTube channel and streamed on Twitch.
