Before the start of CES 2021, Sony has officially unveiled the displays that should replace green screens during filming. The displays are based on Crystal LED technology and are analogous to the screens used on the set of “The Mandalorian” and “Batman” by Matt Reeves.
Sony introduced two series at once: C and B. The first has a high contrast, and the second – a high brightness. Specifically, the B series was developed in conjunction with Sony Pictures and is intended for filmmaking, while the C series will be used for more professional tasks.
The displays are anti-glare and 1800 nits brightness (brighter than the Apple Pro Display XDR, which peaks at 1600 nits). The screens are also equipped with an X1 for Crystal LED processor, which allows rendering images in HDR, up to 120 FPS, and in stereoscopic 3D. Sony also promises complete quietness as there are no cooling fans in the screens.
Crystal LED displays will be available this summer. The price will likely be announced at the upcoming CES.
