Fortnite players have recently discovered that one of the recently introduced skins gives those who buy it an unfair advantage over regular gamers. Many claim that this is a pay-and-win skin, requiring it to be removed or changed.
In the second part of the fourth season, Epic Games provided players with the option to use a customizable superhero skin. This cosmetic item was released as part of a crossover with the Marvel Universe, featuring many heroes, villains and various themed features.
However, what sets the new skin apart is the ability to choose between multiple styles and colors. And among all the available colors, the all-black and white version makes the skin virtually unreadable in dark areas of the map. The Fortnite News Twitter account has posted a good example of what this looks like. If you don’t know about the presence of a character in a suit, guessing about its presence will be problematic, especially during a match.
If you still can’t see, then the character is crouched in the corner to the left of the picture.
On PC, players have the option to disable shadows, which makes enemies more visible, but this is not possible on consoles. Some players are already actively using such cosmetics during matches, which was the reason why the community called the skin a paid bonus. Sadly, this is not the first time the Fortnite community has resented the way developers are adding skins without considering the potential consequences in a competitive game. Previously, a similar situation happened with holiday skins that effectively merged with decorations.
Players expect Epic Games to quickly respond to complaints, remove or modify skins, but even if this does not happen, players are unlikely to start leaving Fortnite en masse – the game has blended too deeply into the mainstream of gamers.
