Following the attack on the Capitol in Washington by supporters of Donald Trump, the president’s official Twitch account was temporarily suspended.
The service representative said:
In light of yesterday’s shocking attack on the Capitol, we blocked President Trump’s Twitch channel. Given the extraordinary events and dangerous rhetoric of the President, we believe this is a necessary measure to protect our community and prevent Twitch from being used as a platform for inciting violence.
The spokesman explained that this is not censorship, but an attempt to minimize potential harm in anticipation of the transfer of power to the new administration, which will happen on January 20. After that, the Twitch administration will reconsider the situation.
This is not the first time that Donald Trump’s account has been temporarily banned. In 2020, the channel was blocked for two weeks for breaking the rules. In addition to Twitch, Trump’s accounts were blocked on Facebook, Instagram. Also, the 12-hour ban was announced on Twitter.
