The Japanese analyst claims that the PlayStation brand in Japan continues to lose ground, and as evidence, data on PS5 sales in the country are given.
In an article on Gamesindustry.biz Japan, analyst Hideki Yasuda of Ace Economic Research noted that the PS5 launch in the region was the weakest of any PlayStation. According to him, Sony sold only 240,000 consoles in the first six weeks. When compared to other PlayStation models, with the exception of the PSP, these are the weakest numbers. At the same time, in his opinion, he does not see any plans for how Sony will be able to return the previous success in its home market.
Hideki noted several points:
- There was no Japanese dub during PS5 presentation
- PS5 shipments to the country were limited
- Sony Interactive Entertainment headquarters relocated to USA
- PlayStation’s general relationship in Japan has cooled
Regardless, Sony shouldn’t be in trouble as demand for the PS5 around the world far outstrips supply. However, if we talk about Japan, then apparently, Nintendo will continue to occupy the throne in the country. The Switch may not brag about ray tracing, but the console has proven time and again that fun games are more important than next generation technology.
