The Windows Latest edition, with reference to data from analytical companies NetMarketShare and StatCounter, reported on the number of installed versions of Windows on PC in 2020.
Despite the discontinuation of critical security updates for Windows 7, millions of users continue to use the operating system. Surprisingly, they dropped the free upgrade to Windows 10 (subject to license).
According to StatCounter, Windows 7 is installed on 17.6% of PCs worldwide. Over the year, the popularity of this OS has declined by only 8%. NetMarketShare has slightly different data – the share of Windows 7 is 21%. As for Windows 10, its share is 75.9% and 74%, respectively.
Windows 10 will likely continue to grow in share this year thanks to the release of Windows 10X and the Sun Valley update, which will visually change the system’s interface. The release of the update should take place during 2021.
