During an interview with Comic Book Resources, Michael J. White , the performer of the role of Spawn in the film of the same name, expressed his skepticism about the restart of the film. In particular, the actor highlighted director Todd McFarlane’s vision of the character.
According to White, the Spawn movie is unlikely to ever be released, and if it does, it will not be successful. The actor is of the same opinion about the version of the picture by Todd MacFarlane.
White believes that McFarlane’s main mistake is that he drew a parallel between Spawn and Jaws. The actor is confident that if Todd’s implementation is based on this parallel, then the fans of the character will not get what they really expect.
Despite doubts, the actor wished the director and his project good luck:
He has been trying to make a new film for 23 years, so it’s doubtful. During our last meeting, Todd told me about his idea. It consisted in the fact that McFarlane wants to make a film in comparison with “Jaws”. I did not answer him and only wished him luck.
The actor also mentioned Jamie Foxx’s involvement in the project:
I heard about Jamie Foxx starring. I wish him good luck! Todd McFarlane might get some attention by promising a good restart for Spawn, and yet I don’t get it.
In 2017, Todd McFarlane announced that he would be directing the reboot of Spawn. His project will be an R-rated dark film. Jamie Foxx was cast in the lead role in 2018, and there has been no news of the tape since.
Initially, they wanted to release the picture in 2019, but due to changes in plans, the premiere date was pushed to May this year. Probably, the restart of “Spawn” will be released either next year or in 2022.
