Supergiant Games Creative Director Greg Kasavin spoke to Inside Gaming about the impact of Dota 2 on Hades . He also noted that he loves MOBA from Valve, but the head of the studio Amir Rao is more interested in this game.
Dota 2 had a big impact on Hades , the design team definitely worked with it in mind. This is simply because a game like Dota, with its rich history, has every heroic ability imaginable.
If you are making a title in which a character can do something, shoot something, blow up opponents, become invisible – whatever, there is certainly a great example of such skill in Dota 2.
There are n’t many explicit Dota 2 references in Hades , Kasavin said , but some of the abilities were borrowed from the Valve game. This is not about direct copying, but about the similarity of the work of some abilities.
I would not say that there are a lot of explicit references to Dota 2 in Hades . There are some things like the legendary Demeter boost, which makes opponents disintegrate when their health drops below a certain limit. It reminds me a lot of Ax’s ability – he just executes enemies, he doesn’t care how much health they have. Examples like this came up quite often when we tried to come up with skills.
The same goes for the usability of the interface – abilities in Dota 2 should be clear to use. For us, this was also one of the main tasks so that players can quickly choose the skills that suit them.
The creative director of Supergiant Games added that Hades has another similarity to Dota 2. In indie action, you can also make the most optimal hero builds, and, if necessary, adapt them to specific conditions.
At the end of the interview, Kasavin thanked all the players for their support. The team is pleased with all the awards and nominations this year, although the developers did not expect such success.
