The full-length anime “Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train” became the highest-grossing film in Japan, overtaking the famous cartoon “Spirited Away” by Hayao Miazaki. The film managed to raise more than $ 313.7 million in the country, and the famous film from Studio Ghibi has $ 305 million for the entire period of distribution.
The premiere of the picture took place on October 16. In 10 days, she crossed the $ 100 million milestone – this is another Japanese record. In just 73 days, the movie was watched 24 million times on 379 screens, including 38 IMAX and 92 4D cinemas.
The cartoon follows a boy living in the remote countryside of Japan in the early 20th century, who goes on a mission for revenge after his family members have been killed by demons, and his younger sister becomes one of them. It was produced by the Ufotable studio.
The huge popularity of the painting is due to two factors:
- The success of the original manga – 120 million copies sold in all formats. In addition, the 26-episode anime based on the manga has become very popular in the country.
- Lack of Hollywood competition in autumn and winter.
