Christopher Nolan in an interview for the Movieclips channel spoke about his attitude to the gaming industry. The director of “Dovod” and “Beginning” noted that he was interested in this direction, but there were certain conditions.
According to Nolan, a long time ago they wanted to launch a video game in the Inception thriller universe. Some steps were even taken in this direction, but the matter did not progress beyond preproduction. The director believes that making video games is a longer and more laborious process than making movies.
The gaming industry is so structured that it can be very difficult … You see, I don’t want to make an ordinary game under a license, just to use the brand already known to people from the movie.
The same goes for video game film adaptations. I wish a movie like this was really great in and of itself, rather than focusing solely on the brand.
Nolan doesn’t want to associate his name with a mediocre game or project that is only focused on brand awareness. Although the director is interested in the development of video games, he is ready to participate in this only if the title is truly interesting and worthwhile.
I want to devote my time and energy to cinema, because game development is incredibly difficult and must be taken seriously. But it’s interesting to me, it’s a wonderful world.
Perhaps someday we will see the game that Nolan had a hand in creating. So far, there is nothing to talk about.
