During a zoom call with host Stephen Colbert on The Late Show , Lord of the Rings trilogy director Peter Jackson spoke about his favorite moment from the saga. It was about the dialogue between Gollum and Smeagol in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers.
It is noteworthy that it was filmed by screenwriter Fran Walsh:
When we were filming The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, we wanted to show the audience the split personality of Gollum, since we have never had anything like it. We knew that the scene had to be in the film, but I didn’t have time for it at all, so I asked Fran to take care of this moment. She happily agreed.
After the release of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, Peter Jackson did not return to the universe created by JRR Tolkien. The writer and director weren’t brought in to work on the Amazon series, even as a consultant.
Recently released 4K versions of all Jackson’s films about the hobbits. They can be found in digital stores.
