AMD’s Radeon RX 6900 XT is officially on sale. Following this, various publications began to publish reviews of this new product. The video card is positioned as a direct competitor to the RTX 3090, but is $ 500 cheaper at the MSRP.
According to TechPowerUp , the AMD video card is extremely quiet. The noise level under load was 30 dB, the RX 6900 XT fans do not work without load. The minimum temperature in idle mode is 45 degrees, under load – 78 degrees. At the hottest point of the board, 95 degrees were recorded.
The power consumption level in most cases remained within the 300 watts declared by the manufacturer. However, sometimes at peak load, this figure could reach 322 W. At the same time, the RTX 3090 produces 405 watts under the same conditions.
Game tests were conducted in 13 games, including Horizon Zero Dawn, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Red Dead Redemption 2, Forza Horizon 4, and others. At first, tom’s Hardware resulted in an average of all titles at once. In all resolutions, the victory was for the RTX 3090, but the lag is not critical.
In games with DLSS support, the situation for the RX 6900 XT becomes much worse. At best, the new AMD product was faster than the GeForce RTX 2080 Ti and GeForce RTX 3070. On average, according to the test results in 10 games (1080p), the video card produced 53-72 fps, versus 68-95 fps for NVIDIA.
A separate test was conducted by TechPowerUp with AMD Smart Access Memory technology activated, which allows the Ryzen 5 series CPU to access the entire video memory of discrete Radeon graphics accelerators at once. The performance gain was 2-7%, with a greater advantage being achieved at lower resolutions.
As a result, it turns out that the RX 6900 XT is on average only 4-7% faster than the Radeon RX 6800 XT, but at the same time it costs almost twice as much. At the same time, the video card looks decent against the background of the RTX 3090, if you do not take into account ray tracing and DLSS.
