Sony May Launch Dual GPU PlayStation 5 Pro Under New Patent

According to a recently discovered patent , Sony is planning on releasing the PlayStation 5 Pro. Basically, it will be a PS5 with only dual GPUs. The description states that the console’s two graphics chips are directly connected and can perform a series of different tasks – from rendering independent frames to processing portions of the same content.

At one time, we had a similar practice on PCs, when NVIDIA and AMD offered to equip computers with two video cards. She showed that this approach is not the most effective and today it is used in very rare cases. This is largely due to the optimization of both the games themselves and the drivers for such a specific system. As a result, most gamers today rely on only one GPU, and machines with multiple GPUs are used either by cryptominers or by enthusiasts and professionals

Given that the PS5 is doing great today, despite fewer teraflops than the Xbox Series X, it can be assumed that the Pro version will occupy the niche of hardcore gamers and will provide the ability to run games with maximum ray tracing capabilities.

Considering that PS5 has just started, it is not worth waiting for a Pro version in the coming years. Of course, if there is one at all, patents do not always mean that a product will be released under them. On the other hand, if there was a demand for PS4 Pro, then in 3-4 years there should be demand for PS5 Pro, when the cost of production and distribution of consoles will significantly decrease.
