UK Defense Chief of Staff Nick Carter gave an interview to Sky News, in which he touched upon two important topics: the robotization of the army and the Third World War. According to the general, a new world war may start due to the tense economic situation associated with the coronavirus crisis.
Carter believes that the world community is very tense, and the situation itself resembles that of the beginning of the 20th century.
History may not repeat itself, but it has a rhythm. If we pay attention to the past century, there were many miscalculations that led to world wars. There is a risk of a new war, and we must be aware of this.
To better prepare for such a possibility, 30,000 robots could be “enrolled” in the British troops by 2030. This is equal to a quarter of the entire armed force of the army, which now includes 73,870 people.
Robots will not have the right to kill people, they will be controlled by operators. For example, the UK is developing the i9 flying drone, equipped with two shotguns and AI targeting.
