This year, Activision and Sony re-entered into an exclusive Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War deal that will bring a range of benefits to PS4 and PS5 players. For example, Sony consoles will have additional class slots, skip tiers, dual XP events, and weapon XP events.
This information came after the blog dedicated to the Prestige in Black Ops Cold War, which was significantly reworked and now will not drop weapon pumping, as it did in previous games in the series. Regarding the exclusive deal, it was revealed that players on Sony consoles will receive an additional 25% weapon XP and double exp, but only for 24 hours once a month. In addition, players on Sony platforms will receive two additional slots for custom classes.
Some gamers have started calling these practices anti-consumer, arguing that Sony and Activision should be ashamed. BenjaminWareing from reddit writes:
Exclusive mode was already dull last year, but it had no impact on games. You could live with it, especially with the launch of a cross-platform and other features.
They now guarantee two additional PlayStation-only class slots and tier passes, and an additional weapon exp, and double exp events. Everything only on PlayStation is out of bounds. There is no compromise, crossplay is already standard, so anti-consumerism comes out. If these are the consequences of an exclusive deal, then they should be ashamed to look up.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is out next week.
