AMD said the new Radeon RX 6000 graphics cards will only support ray tracing in certain games. The technology will be available wherever Microsoft DirectX Raytracing (DXR) and Vulkan Raytracing APIs are used.
Games that use NVIDIA solutions will not be supported.
AMD will support all industry standard ray-traced projects, including Microsoft DirectX 12 DXR APIs and forthcoming Vulkan Raytracing.
Games that use proprietary APIs and ray tracing extensions are not supported.
Fortunately for potential RX 6000 owners, there are not many such games. Major game engines such as Frostbite, Unreal, Seed, and Unity use the Microsoft DirectX Raytracing API for ray tracing.
List of Supported Games:
- Battlefield v
- Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
- Deliver us the moon
- DIRT 5
- Metro exodus
- Shadow of the tomb raider
- Wolfenstein youngblood
The release of graphics cards and consoles based on the AMD RDNA 2 architecture is likely to nudge developers to use conventional ray tracing APIs and move away from proprietary technologies.
The launch of new AMD graphics cards is scheduled for November 18th. Before that, the company should tell more about the DLSS analogue.
