Activision Blizzard has said more than once that it plans to make more mobile games and is considering all of its franchises for them. Now the company has gone further – it plans to release a mobile game for each of its IPs.
Activision Blizzard President and COO Daniel Alegre said in a recent financial report that the publisher plans to bring its franchises to the widest possible audience. Smartphone games are the best option for this.
We need to make sure our franchises are available on billions of mobile devices. This is the biggest opportunity for us, and we are investing heavily to capitalize on this and move all of our franchises to mobile over time. This is very, very important to us.
Alegre noted that due to the limited resources of Activision Blizzard, the company plans to focus on where the greatest opportunities lie. These are probably games for smartphones.
Activision Blizzard is already making big bucks on smartphones. Between July and September 2020, mobile games brought in $ 661 million for the company. This is about 34% of total revenue.
