Microtransactions were Activision Blizzard’s most profitable business in the last quarter. They brought in $ 1.2 billion in revenue in just the last three months from July to September. The growth was 69% compared to the period last year when Activision Blizzard earned $ 709 million from in-game purchases.
For the entire quarter, revenue was $ 1.95 billion. Thus, in-game purchases brought more than half of the company’s revenue in three months.
Especially the Call of Duty franchise brings in a lot of money. Microtransaction sales in Modern Warfare and Warzone were four times higher than in the same period last year.
The next game in the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War series, according to analysts, will be the best-selling game in the US this year. It will be released on November 13 on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
